EllisDon, Progressive Education Partners to build $800 million Prince George’s County schools

Washington Construction News staff writer

EllisDon and Progressive Education Partners have signed a commercial close agreement to build eight new schools in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

The $800 million Blueprint Schools Phase II project will see the construction of eight new school facilities grouped into three separate bundles, with three staggered completion dates across a four-year construction period. The schools will be designed and built by MCN Build and will be completed by EllisDon Facilities Services, a member of the Progressive Education Partners team, over a 30-year period.

The client, the Prince George’s County Public Schools, includes more than 130,000 students and 22,000 employees and many existing facilities require substantial maintenance upgrades. The schools selected for the project are either due to the current condition of the existing school or as a result of population growth within the surrounding community.

“Our Capital team is pleased to reach the Commercial Close date,” says Joey Comeau, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, Capital, EllisDon. “This is our first P3 contract and equity investment outside of Canada and supports our continuing expansion into the United States. It demonstrates exceptional teamwork and dedication from EllisDon and the Progressive Education Partners.”

“Our Facilities Services team is thrilled to support the first P3 contract in the United States alongside our EllisDon Capital team members,” says Colin Flock, Senior Vice President, Facilities Services, EllisDon. “Our commitment to maintenance and rehabilitation of these eight schools for the 30-year term exemplifies EllisDon Facilities Services’ global commitment to excellence with our cradle-to-grave offering.”
